Session 1

  • Durk was imprisoned in Fort Maro
  • Thuvaur, Yagga, and Kri arrived via barge, where they were greeted by Barrister Ewon Siraca
  • Thuvaur tried to run back up onto the boat, but Yagga and Kri talked to Ewon who invited them to join him at Fort Maro, saying that they could "help someone"
  • The gang arrived at Durk's cell, whereupon Ewon produced papers of pardon for Durk and gave the party the music box, with a note reading "Play at dawn"
  • They then decided that they needed somewhere to stay; they chose to travel to the Cottage of the Hive
  • On the way to the inn, they were attacked by four Vieta Maelwe bandits in a gondola.

Combat on the canal

  • Durk didn't notice them, so despite rolling a 20 initiative, they didn't get to act in the first round
  • The bandits shot at Yagga and Durk with crossbows, hitting Durk and misfiring when trying to shoot Yagga
  • Yagga jumped across the canal gap into the gondola where she mortally wounded the bandit who tried to shoot her
  • Thuvaur threw his spear across the gap, instantly killing the bandit who shot Durk
  • At this point, the other two bandits failed their morale checks. One of them leapt into the canal, and the other surrendered to the PCs
  • Durk leapt into the boat and tossed the remaning (mortally wounded but still fighting) bandit into the canal to drown
  • The surrendering bandit gave the party information on Vieta Maelwe in exchange for promises of protection

At the Inn

  • The party left their bandit companion in the lobby and headed up to the room to use the music box
  • They were all very alarmed by the ballerina talking to them
  • The ballerina told the party about the Yatanese conspiracy in Maro, and that she needed their help to dismantle it
  • She also told them that she was not in Maro and that she could not reveal her identity to them
  • They agreed to meet an informant the next afternoon at a tavern called the Scaly Pianist before the box shut down
  • The party then agreed that they would need to tie up their bandit companion in order to prevent them from escaping and ratting them out
  • The PCs took their bandit friend back up to their room with them, promising to disuise them while Kri asked if they were "into bondage," leading them to be rather wary
  • They then intimidated the bandit into agreeing to be tied up, much to their dismay
  • Thuvaur tied the knots, but he did a pretty bad job of it. The party also threw a blanket over their bandit which made it even easier to hide escaping from their bonds.
  • Thuvaur kept first watch; after Kri finished meditating, she took second watch.
  • During Kri's watch, the bandit jumped out of the window and escaped into the night.
  • The party decided not to pursue them further and to deal with it in the morning

On the town

  • Durk and Thuvaur headed over to #42 Vellase Street, the warehouse where Vieta Maelwe is currently based
  • They noticed a youth with a sword sitting outside and the winged serpents flying overhead
  • They also saw their bandit friend coming up the canal in a gondola
  • The tried to con their way into the warehouse by telling the youth outside that they were here to pick up a delivery, and that they didn't know what they were picking up because they "don't ask questions"
  • The youth saw through their lies, let them into the warehouse, and then immediately rang the intruder bell
  • Meanwhile Kri and Yagga are preparing to investigate the Scaly Pianist...
